cookies

One cookie. dud_session: a random token tied to your account, set when you log in, cleared when you log out. It is HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax, and Secure in production, and expires after thirty days of inactivity.

No third-party trackers. No ads. We collect anonymous, first-party performance metrics (page-load timings) on our own infrastructure to keep the dungeon fast. They say nothing about who you are and never leave our servers.

18 and over

Dial-Up Dungeon is for visitors aged 18 or older. Portraits are user-drawn and chat is free-form; this is not a place we can safely guarantee for anyone younger. At signup you confirm your age and we ask for your date of birth. If you tell us you are under 18, or we otherwise learn that you are, we will delete the account.

what we store

• account: email, hashed passphrase, screen name, the avatars you start with or draw, and the date you joined.
• art you make: the pixel avatars you draw with Pixellax. These are the only user-made content we host. Avatars you publish to the Avatar Library are visible to other dwellers and may be reviewed by Wardens.
• date of birth: collected at signup, kept private. Used to verify you are 18+. Never displayed publicly, never shared, never used for advertising.
• messages: chat lines you send to a room, kept for scrollback.
• crow messages: the async letters you send and receive, kept until you delete them.
• sessions: your IP and user-agent string, attached to each session, used for security and rate limiting.
• moderation: reports, warnings, and bans against your account, with the reason and the warden who acted.

We don't sell or share any of it.

email

We email you to verify your address at signup, and we email an invite link when someone invites you. Nothing else: no newsletters, no announcements, no "we miss you" campaigns. If we ever add other mail (a passphrase reset, a crow alert), it'll be listed here first.

conduct

This is a small, curated place. Wardens read what gets reported and act with judgment, not with a checklist. The short version of what gets you banned:

• harassment, slurs, or threats against another visitor.
• posting another person's private information.
• spam, scams, or attempts to recruit for outside platforms.
• sharing material that is illegal.
• circumventing a ban with a new invite or a new account.

Bans come with a reason. If you think a warden got it wrong, email admin@dialupdungeon.com and it reaches the admins.

voice & webcam

Some rooms support live voice and webcams. Both are off by default and opt-in per device. Nothing is captured until you turn them on.

• Voice is a shared open conversation: when you transmit, everyone in the room who has voice on can hear you. Webcams are set per room: some allow a single broadcaster, and others let everyone who wants to share a camera at once.
• Voice and video are sent peer-to-peer between people in the room, so to connect, your device's IP address may be visible to other participants. When a direct connection cannot be made, the live stream may fall back to a relay server; it carries the media to complete the call, but we never record or store it.
• We do not record voice or webcam, and nothing is stored on our servers. It is live only.
• Wardens can mute your voice, disable your webcam, or silence you in a room. Treat voice and camera like any public space: don't share what you wouldn't want seen or heard.
